WILSONVILLE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
November 2016 Election
Measure 97: Is a massive corporate sales tax that would impose a 2.5% tax on sales of goods and services in Oregon. It’s a tax on sales – not profits – and it would be passed on to Oregon consumers and small businesses through higher prices on everything from food, gas, and electricity to insurance, medicine, and health care. There’s no guarantee the money would go to education or anything else. The Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce recommends a “no” vote.
Measure 98: This measure would require state funding of $800/student for dropout prevention and career and college readiness programs in Oregon high schools. While the Wilsonville Chamber believes in workforce development, it took no official position on this measure.
Measure 99: This measure would create an "Outdoor School Education Fund," sourced from state lottery proceeds, to support outdoor school programs. While the Wilsonville Chamber sees the value of outdoor school, it is opposed to using lottery proceeds that would otherwise be used for economic development to bring jobs to Oregon.
House District 26: The Wilsonville Chamber endorsed Rich Vial for House District 26 State Representative. In addition to being a retired real estate attorney and farmer, Vial has 30 years of volunteer leadership in the County which we believe provides him with the experience and background to be effective.
House District 37: The Wilsonville Chamber endorsed Representative Julie Parrish as she works well “across the aisle” and has done an excellent job for the district over throughout the last six years.
Clackamas County Commission Chair: The Wilsonville Chamber endorsed John Ludlow for re-election as Chair of the Clackamas County Board of Directors. Ludlow is a long-time Wilsonville resident and has been a strong opponent of Measure 97. Also, he realizes the economic impact of the Aurora Airport.
Clackamas County Commission Position 4: The Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce endorsed Tootie Smith for Clackamas County Commission. Smith represents rural Clackamas County and is a key player in efforts to build a riverwalk and reopen the locks at Willamette Falls.
